MOMODa FOUNDATION is currently implementing an evaluation research on the Demand Generation effectiveness, Training Effectiveness, Field Adherence, Implementation Fidelity, and Customer Experience of the Reading Glasses for Improved Livelihoods (RGIL) Program, a collaborative initiative supported by VisionSpring in partnership with BRAC and SAJIDA Foundation, across 28 districts of Bangladesh. The primary objective of this comprehensive evaluation is to generate evidence-based insights to assess the effectiveness of the program’s scaled-up demand generation strategy and staff training, while identifying opportunities to strengthen implementation and improve customer outcomes. The research focuses on determining the effectiveness of demand generation activities in increasing eye camp attendance and reading glasses uptake, assessing customer exposure to campaign activities, evaluating staff perceptions and satisfaction with training, measuring the translation of training into field practice, examining implementation fidelity at camp level, and understanding customer experience and product use sustainability. To achieve these objectives, the study employs a rigorous mixed-methods approach comprising a quantitative survey of 600 eye camp participants, qualitative in-depth interviews with Area Managers and Near Vision Specialists (NVSs), and direct observations using both observation checklists and onsite training observations across selected RGIL areas. In addition, the research will generate customer demographic and socio-economic profiles, identify barriers and motivators to service uptake, evaluate counselling and service quality, and provide actionable recommendations to enhance program implementation and support evidence-based decision-making for the continued expansion of the RGIL Program.
Uncorrected near vision impairment (presbyopia) remains a significant barrier to productivity and quality of life for millions of adults in Bangladesh. To address this challenge, VisionSpring, in collaboration with BRAC and SAJIDA Foundation, has been implementing the Reading Glasses for Improved Livelihoods (RGIL) Program, which provides community-based vision screening and affordable reading glasses. Following up on the successful completion of the pilot RGILĀ evaluation project in 2025, the scale-up of the evaluation program has been contracted in partnership with VisionSpring across 28 districts. The study aims to assess the effectiveness of demand generation activities, staff training, field implementation, and customer experience, generating evidence to strengthen program implementation and improve access to quality eye care services.
