This partnership marks a significant step toward conducting a Baseline Study on Labour Rights and Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) to generate evidence-based insights into workplace conditions and labour standards in Bangladesh’s industrial sectors. The study will assess the prevalence and effectiveness of HRDD measures in factories, including the formation of sexual harassment complaint committees, provision of maternity benefits, compliance with safety standards, improvement of job settlement processes, and establishment of child day-care and welfare facilities.
The study will be conducted through 400 worker surveys, 40 industry surveys, 4 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and several Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) to ensure a comprehensive understanding of labour practices and institutional mechanisms.
It will also evaluate workers’ awareness of their rights, their confidence in reporting mechanisms, and the capacity of trade unions to engage in social dialogue and collective bargaining. Furthermore, the study will explore commitments from brands, factories, and government bodies to strengthen compliance with core labour standards and identify key policy recommendations to eliminate child and forced labour.
Through this initiative, MOMODa FOUNDATION and BLAST aim to build a strong foundation for promoting responsible business conduct, enhancing worker well-being, and fostering safer, fairer, and more inclusive workplaces across Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) is implementing the project titled,”Promoting Labour Standards for Ensuring Workers’ Rights in RMG and Leather Goods Sectors,” funded by the European Union, with MOMODa FOUNDATION serving as a partner organization and conducting the Baseline Study for the project.
