MOMODa FOUNDATION in collaboration with Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a local NGO is located in Gaibandha and Creative IT, a global leading in training young and poor individuals to become online freelancers is going to implement a project titled “Skin in the Game: Microequity and Mentorship for Online Freelancing based Micro-entrepreneurs in Bangladesh”. This is an experimental intervention is conducted by Dr. Abu Shonchoy (with Dr. Simon Quinn, Mehrab Bakhtiar and Muhammad Meki). The project considers an innovative new microfinance
product, based on the principles of equity financing, in which promising potential entrepreneurs are provided with capital, training and mentorship to help them become online freelancers. The underlying assumption is that entrepreneurial mentorship is more effective when mentors are incentivised directly by the productivity of their mentees: when they have ‘skin in the game’. Each of the eligible participants will randomly be allocated into four treatment categories. All entrepreneurs who enter into the program, regardless of their assigned treatment, will be provided with the initial intensive training and access to a computer facility where they can conduct their business operations.
